This project reconsiders Northgate Plaza, a Dead Mall in a Low Density Neighborhood of Knoxville, into a lively urban neighborhood. Divided into a plethora of smaller sites, I was tasked with creating a mixed-use residential building adjacent to a proposed Hockey Arena. Through a vibrant arena plaza, ample exciting rooftop amenities, and engaging ground level activation, the energetic node of activity would bring the energy from the arena out to the surrounding site, cultivating community pride and engagement in a lively exciting environment. Watch parties, a convenience store, and a plethora of restaurants and retail would bring together sports fans and families alike. Finally, the commercial and public uses of the building would be appropriately placed based on whether it is arena-related or more family-oriented. Pre-game and post-game activities would energize the site, while offering amenities on non-game days.
